Transition Year

The essential aim of Transition Year is to promote the personal, social, educational and vocational development of student and to prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society.

During Transition Year, students are given an opportunity to study many different subject areas and to become involved in many additional activities. Subjects available to Transition Year students will vary Depending on the interested of the individual students involved and resources available. These subjects will generally include:

Students have work  experience every Tuesday, which is an integral part of the Transition Year Programme. It involves:

  • Preparation for work including job application
  • Interview techniques and communications skills
  • Analysis of student’s experiences in the workplace

Transition Year differs from other educational programmes in the school in that students are freed from the constraints of the formal examination system the structure of the programme provides for personal self-development – it gives the student and opportunity to grow and mature. It also equips the student with a broader range of skills and insights to deal more effectively with a Leaving Certificate Programme. There is a fee payable by all students taking Transition Year.
